Karbi Anglong police lathicharged a mob protesting against eviction of illegal settlers. The police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd. No casualties have been reported.

Diphu (Assam): Police on Friday lathicharged a mob protesting against eviction of illegal settlers in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police said. A mob of about 1500 people had gathered at Lankajam area under Barjangphar police station to protest against eviction in the area going on since March two last.

The mob started pelting stones at the officials and security forces engaged in removing people, who have settled illegally on government land.

The police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd and the situation which had turned tense was soon brought under control, the police added.

There was, however, no reports of any injury. The district administration has so far demolished 646 houses, with 104 done on Friday.

Intro:New Delhi: After two street vendors from Kashmir being attacked by right-wing activists in Lucknow went viral recently, Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday decided to reinforce the existing advisory to states to ensure the safety of people from Kashmir region.


"Ministry of Home Affairs through an advisory issued today to the States and Union Territories asked them to reinforce the existing arrangements to ensure safety and security of persons belonging to Jammu and Kashmir residing in their respective jurisdictions," an advisory issued by home ministry said.

"Referring to its earlier Advisory issued on 16 February in view of some students and residents of Jammu and Kashmir experiencing intimidation and harassment, MHA urged state and Union Territory police authorities to take strict action against the offenders as per law," said an advisory.

Two Kashmiris selling dry fruit were thrashed by a group of saffron-clad men in Lucknow on Wednesday evening, following which four persons were arrested.





Conclusion:Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also reacted on the incident. PM Modi urged state governments to take strict action against such incidents in the future and Rajnath Singh asked chief ministers of all the states to protect and love Kashmiri students.
