Aizawl (Mizoram): As Mizoram government has decided not to celebrate Christmas and New Year in a manner which could attract public gathering to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission, several churches across the state are looking at low-key Christmas celebrations
The churches in the capital city, Aizawl will not hold the midnight mass, while many have taken the prayers online.
One can join the mass on online platforms like Zoom and GoogleMeet. Locals, however, said the Christmas celebrations would not be the same online in these trying times.
"Every year, around Christmas time, the streets of Aizawl is filled with people going about shopping for Christmas gifts, food and clothes. In every localities and churches, members would prepare for Christmas carols and church services, singing in praise of the Lord. This year, as global pandemic has changed all norms around the world, Mizoram too is changing the way it celebrates Christmas," said, Lalruatkimi.
"The Christmas of 2020 will be celebrated online for the first time. Every church has its own YouTube channel where services will be streamed and every household would join from the comfort of their homes. The spirit of Christmas is still very much alive. Praise and worship services are organized through loudspeakers so that many localities can join the service," she said.
