Kargil War hero from Assam expressed his desire to serve the nation soon after recovering from the war injuries. He shared his wish on the occasion of Kargil Diwas on Friday.

Tezpur: While the nation is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, one injured Kargil war hero who hails from Tezpur of Assam hopes to don uniform again to serve his nation.

Ghanakanta Keot was attacked on 22nd May 1999 by Pakistani soldiers in Kargil war. He along with five other soldiers got injured and went for treatment.

After recovering from 3-month treatment, Keot expressed his desire to serve his nation again.

While recalling the old days, Keot shared his experience when the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and defence minister George Fernandez visited to see him. "It will take two months to recover and I'll go to the battlefield again," he said to them.

Keot was honoured at the headquarter of Tezpur Gajraj War Memorial.

TEZPUR, 26 JULY : WHILE THE NATION IS CELEBRATING THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS, ONE INJURED KARGIL WAR HERO HAILS FROM TEZPUR OF ASSAM, GHANAKANTA KEOT HOPES TO DON UNIFORM AGAIN TO SERVE HIS NATION.

ON 22ND MAY, 1999 PAKISTANI SOLDIERS ATTACKED KARGIL AND GHANAKANTA KEOT WITH ANOTHER 5 SOLDIERS WERE INJURED. KEOT SUFFERED A BLOW THAT CHANGED HIS LIFE FOREVER. HE WAS UNDER TREATMENT FOR 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT INJURY. THE FORMER SOLDIER IS STILL CARRYING THAT AGONY WITH HIM AS HE HAS EXPRESSED HIS DESIRE TO SERVE HIS NATION AGAIN. HE SAID, "I AM FIT TO COMPLETE MY BATTLE EVEN NOW". HE RECALLS -WHEN HE WAS FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE AFTER INJURY IN THE WAR, THE THEN PRIME MINISTER ATAL BIHARI BAJPAYEE AND DEFENCE MINISTER GEORGE FERNANDEZ VISITED TO SEE HIM AND HE TOLD THEM "IT WILL TAKE TWO MONTHS TO RECOVER AND I'LL GO TO BATTLE FIELD AGAIN".

TODAY ALSO HE IS READY TO FIGHT AGAINST PAKISTAN AND HE IS VERY MUCH CAPABLE TO GIVE THEM A LESSON. TODAY KEOT WAS HONOURED AT THE HEAD QUARTER OF TEZPUR GAJRAJ COPRS.
