APCC President Ripun Bora termed the exclusion of people from NRC as 'injustice'. Letters of information containing the reason for exclusion is being sent to the excluded persons at their residential address.

New Delhi: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora (APCC) on Thursday claimed that exclusion of more than one lakh people from the draft National Register of Citizen (NRC) is a "gross injustice" to the people of Assam.

Ahead of the July deadline, Assam government had published a list of names of over one lakh people, who have been excluded from the draft National Register of Citizens published last year.

Ripun Bora termed the exclusion as unfortunate.

"Name of these one lakh people were earlier included in the draft NRC and now from their names have been dropped," Bora said.

The persons named in the exclusion list are the persons or whose descendants were found to be Declared Foreigner (DF) or Doubtful Voter (DV) or whose cases were pending at Foreigners Tribunals after publishing of draft NRC.

The list also includes names of people who were found ineligible while appearing as witnesses in hearings held for disposal of claims and objections.

"We will definitely raise the issue in Parliament. Not a single Indian citizen should be left out," Bora said.

The final National Register of Citizens will be published on 31st July 2019.

Intro:New Delhi: Cautioning a big turmoil in Assam in the coming days, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora (APCC) on Thursday said that exclusion of more than 1 lakh people from the draft National Register of Citizen (NRC) is a "gross injustice" to the people of Assam.


Body:A day after Assam government released an additional draft NRC list, excluding names of 1,02,462 people from the list, Bora termed this as unfortunate and injustice.

"We have been apprehending about the sincerity of the government since beginning. Name of these 1 lakh people were earlier included in the draft NRC and from draft NRC also their names have been excluded!" said Bora.

Names of these 1 lakh people were earlier included in the draft NRC published last year. Assam government said that the persons named in the additional exclusion list are the persons whose descendants were found to be declared foreigner or doubtful voter or whose cases were pending at Foreigners Tribunal.

"Earlier names of 40 lakhs people were curtailed from NRC. And now more 1 lakh...this will create a turmoil in the state," said Bora.

Exclusion of 1 lakh people was done after the governmnet completed the claims and objections process in the NRC.


Conclusion:"We will definitely raise the issue in the Parliament. Not a single Indian citizen should be dropped. All Indians should be included in the NRC," said Bora.

As per Supreme Court's directives, the final NRC list will be published on July 31.
