Guwahati (Assam): Dispur Government Higher Secondary School has been identified as one of the most important polling stations in the Dispur assembly constituency for more than two decades as former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his wife Gurucharan Kaur had cast their vote at this polling station for the past twenty years.
Dr Manmohan Singh and his wife who were tenants of former chief minister late Hiteshwar Saikia's Dispur Sarumotoria house were on the voters' list of Dispur constituency. Accordingly, both of them had been asserting their democratic rights at this centre.
But in 2020, Dr Singh along with his wife shifted their voting rights from Dispur to Delhi and currently, both of them are voters of Delhi. It was in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections that Dr Singh and his wife cast their vote in this constituency for the last time.
This VVIP polling station which has been under tight security in earlier elections no longer has that feature as Dr. Singh and his wife will never come here to vote again.
