Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is in critical condition. He has been admitted to GMCH. Some parts of his body have become paralyzed. Gogoi was put on artificial respiration. Assam Health Minister Himanta Bishwa Sharma is personally supervising Gogoi's treatment.
The former chief minister is still in critical condition. The 6-hour dialysis was conducted on Gogoi. 2 units of blood has been given to the Former Chief Minister. Current Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been in constant touch with the GMCH authorities. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal wished immediate recovery to Tarun Gogoi.
Tarun Gogoi has been the Chief Minister of Assam for three terms from 2001 till 2016. Tarun Gogoi has been elected as the Joint Secretary of the All India Congress (A) Committee (AICC).
He was subsequently elected General Secretary of the All India Congress (A) Committee under Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for the years 1985-1990. For the years 1991-1996, he was the Minister of State (Independent) in the Food Department of the Union Government headed by the then Prime Minister of India PV Narsingh Rao. Later, in the year 1986-1990, Tarun Gogoi was the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
In 1996, he was re-elected as the Chairman of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee for the second time.
Tarun Gogoi has been elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly five times.
Tarun Gogoi was elected MLA for five consecutive terms from the Titabar Assembly constituency in Jorhat. After being elected MLA for five terms, Tarun Gogoi was elected to the Lok Sabha six times as an MP.
