Guwahati (Assam): In the last six days, at least 3,000 people have been detected COVID-19 positive in Assam and over 1,500 belong to Guwahati city alone. In the last 24 hours, 360 people have been detected COVID-19 positive in Guwahati.
Beds arranged by the government are filling fast. Private hospitals, too, have seen a surge in the number of COVID-19 patients. In view of the increase in the number of COVID-19 patients, the administration has re-opened the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for them. Around 150 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Another 600 beds have been set up in several hospitals, including Ayurvedic Hospital, Singimari Hospital and Patanjali Yoga Peeth.

Further, 165 beds at COVID Hospital in Kalapahar, 62 beds at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital and 65 beds in Sonapur, arranged for COVID patients have all been almost occupied. Taking cognisance of the issue, 255 additional beds have been set up.
The only saving grace is that several COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms are undergoing isolation, thus drastically reducing the stress on hospitals. As per reports, several patients have a travel history with most of them having arrived from Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal.
