Guwahati: Assam's Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia on Friday claimed that he was in touch with the state police chiefs of the neighbouring states to jointly counter terror and insurgency. He said, "We will continue with such initiatives so that we can meet the emerging challenges."
Saikia said that after the May 15 grenade attack, the state police expedited the process of investigation and apprehended a lot of individuals behind the attack. "The people of the state have appreciated our effort in the case," said Saikia.
Claiming that there should be co-ordination between machine and men, the head of the state police said, "Apart from high-ended arms and ammunition, we are also looking into capacity building exercises."
He added: "We have introduced a regular training module and that has helped us in modernising the force."
Saikia also spoke on cybersecurity challenges and said that the state police's 'cyber dome' project will tackle any threat in the cyberspace.
Speaking on the initiative taken by his men to ensure a better connect with the public, Saikia said that 'police-public counters' were set up in five police stations across Guwahati, which acts as the first interface between the police and the complainant.
He said, "We have taken steps to ensure a better police-public connect."
With efforts to establish a better connection between the police and public, the initiative is seen as an attempt to mitigate the fear that persists among the people.
