Salmara (Assam): A suspected cattle smuggler was killed in an encounter by BSF personnel along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam's South Salmara district on Friday, police said.

The encounter took place at Kharuwabandha area early this morning when the smuggler, with a consignment of cattle, was making an attempt to enter India from Bangladesh, the police added.

The smuggler was killed on the spot and has been identified as Abdul Shubur, a resident of Shantipur area under the jurisdiction of Kharuwabandha police station.

The smuggler's body has been sent to Dhubri Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, a police officer said.

Dhubri,6 December: The large amount of illegal cattle smuggling has been going on in the border areas from Dhubri and Mancachar district to Bangladesh.  On Friday early morning a cattle smuggler has been killed by the of BSF's firing, while trying to traspassing the border by cutting the fencing wall. According to BSF report, the cattle smuggler has been identified as Subur Miya, he is an inhabitant of Kanaimara region of South-Salmara District just near to Indo-Bangla border. The BSF source also said that the man was killed by BSF patroling team's bullet while trying to cut down the border fencing for illegal cattle transporting. The deadbody of the man has been handed over to Kharubandha local police station so far.
