Guwahati (Assam): Amid the ongoing assembly polls in Assam, the ruling BJP has drawn flak after an alleged audiotape involving a minister in CM Sarbananda Sonowal's cabinet threatening two journalists with 'dire consequences' surfaced.

The Minister Pijush Hazarika was heard in the alleged audiotape shouting and threatening two journalists saying their legs would be broken and that they would be dragged out of their houses.

The minister's outburst was in fact to a reaction over a local television having aired a story about his spouse. Hazarika's wife, Aimee Baruah, who is an actor, in her recent address at a public rally in Assam had said that those who oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will not only be thrown out of Assam, but out of India.

In the audiotape, Hazarika was heard referring to the news and accusing the journalists for doing the story. Even though the journalists kept on repeating that the story was not filed by them, the minister went on to abuse and threaten them.

He also asked the journalists to record the audio and publish it, saying that they can do nothing to him. "The more you publish against me, the more powerful I will become," Hazarika was heard saying in the alleged audiotape.

Journalists across the state have condemned the attack and held a protest over the issue.
