Diphu: Sarat Das, a young man, who cried for rescue from miscreants pressurizing him to kill Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was rescued by Assam's Karbi Anglong police. Das was rescued from a hotel in Khatkhati area along the Assam Nagland border. A viral video of Das alleging abduction by miscreants surfaced on Saturday.
The probe is underway to ascertain if his allegations are true. The top brass of Assam police is yet to make any statements in this regard. The man was heard saying in the video, "People of Assam, be aware. I am making this video from Dimapur (A town in Nagaland). I came here on September 9 to do some work. Some people have abducted me and gave me a pistol with three bullets and asked me to kill "Mama"." Assam CM Sarma is popularly known as "Mama" in the state, the term was popularized by his followers during last year's Assembly polls campaign.
Das was also seen holding a pistol in the video, sobbing and seeking help. He also added that if the abductors take cognizance of his video, he would be killed. Further, he alleged that his documents and Rs 3 lakh were seized by the miscreants. Das hails from Lakhimpur district in Assam.
