Nagaon: A traumatic incident in violation of human rights came to light from the state of Assam on Saturday evening. The dead body of a rickshaw puller was carried for postmortem by the Assam police in a rickshaw instead of a mortuary van.
The police stated the non-availability of a mortuary van as the reason behind the inhuman treatment.
The body was found by the locals at the bus station in Haibargaon area of Assam's Nagaon district and the police were informed immediately.
The police arrived at the spot and recovered the body, but carried it in an open rickshaw.
