New Delhi: Alleging rampant corruption in the functioning of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Naba Sarania an MP from Assam has demanded a CBI enquiry. He has also demanded the dissolution of the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) system in the sixth schedule(tribal) areas of the state.
"In the name of development, all the officials engaged with VCDC are siphoning a huge amount of money. There is corruption and a lack of development too in BTC area, hence the VCDC should be dissolved," said Naba Sarania in an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat.
Sarania, an independent MP, said that he will form a political party and contest the forthcoming BTC elections.
BTC was formed following a memorandum of settlement between erstwhile Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT, a disbanded militant organisation), Assam and the central government in 2003.
The Panchayat system does not exist in the BTC area since 2003, with the effect of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
VCDC is an alternative arrangement for Village Panchayat.
Sarania further said that there is a nexus between politicians and the administration in these areas.
Referring to the investigation in student leader Lafiqul Islam murder case, Sarania said, "CBI had begun the investigation two years ago, but no result has come so far."
Lafiqul was shot dead by miscreants in August 2017.
