Kamrup (Assam): A heated argument broke out between Assam police and Meghalaya police when the former reportedly went to survey the land proposed for establishing the border outpost for the police at Lampi town in Assam's Kamrup district on Thursday.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the police of both states claimed that the area belongs to their respective states.
However, according to the Indian survey, Lampi, situated at Assam-Meghalaya border, is a part of Assam.
Assam police were led by Kamrup's additional Superintendent of police Sanjib Saikia and the arguments between both state's police continued for almost four hours, said sources.
It is to be noted that the borders of the two states have witnessed a spate of unrests in the recent past.
Assam and Meghalaya have 12 areas of difference which are often termed as "disputed" areas along the inter-state border.
