Guwahati: A man attempted suicide by jumping into the Puthimari river in Assam's Kamrup district on Thursday. The man was later rescued by villagers.
According to reports, the man lost his home and crops in the ongoing flood in the state. Finding no alternative, the man decided to end his life.
After the floods completely destroyed his crops, the man who sells vegetables in the local market developed endless anxiety and took the extreme step.
A woman in the village said, "We have not been provided government aid. The blankets, mosquito nets and other materials were not given to us."
She further added that despite being in the queue, the man was not provided anything, following which he lost his calm and decided to jump into the river.
