Assam govt deploys two women officers to maintain law and order along the state border

Assam government has deputed Ramandeep Kaur, Superintendent of Police and Kirti Jali, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district which borders Kolasib district in Mizoram, to maintain law and order along the state border.

Guwahati: At a time when the Assam-Mizoram border is on turmoil, two women officers are manning the troubled region on the Assam side. Assam government has deputed Ramandeep Kaur as the Superintendent of Police and Kirti Jali as the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district which borders Kolasib district in Mizoram, to maintain law and order along the state border.

The state government's step comes as a preventive measure after the violence broke out between the police and civilians of both states on July 26 leading to the death of six Assam police personnel and a civilian.

Although there is no report of any fresh violence, tension simmers along the Assam-Mizoram border.

Assam Police has withdrawn its force from the border after the Lailapur incident, where 6 Assam Police jawans have been killed. In contrast, Mizo police are still stationed at the border.

Both the women officers along with Assam Police and Commando Force have been regularly patrolling the Lailapur and adjoining areas to instill confidence among the people. The force along the border have been equipped with mortars, rocket launchers, bulletproof vehicles etc.
