Guwahati: With the flood situation worsening in northeastern state of Assam, over 90 per cent of the Kaziranga National Park has been inundated in flood water.
The current wave of floods has already consumed the lives of around 14 animals including that of a one-horned rhinoceros. The carcass of a rhino was also recovered by forest officials on Monday.
Over 143 out of 223 camps set up in the Kaziranga National park have submerged in flood water. We have sheltered wild animals including one-horned rhino, deer and elephants on higher grounds in the park, said a forest official.

In order to prevent deaths of animals in road accidents, the speed limit in the area has been reduced significantly on NH 37.
The implementation of the speed limit is necessary as animals try to cross over to the other side of the park during floods in search of higher ground. In doing so, many animals are often hit by speeding vehicles.
Officials have also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for people who violate the speed limit. The Kaziranga National Park is home to world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceros.
Nearly 25 districts of the state have been affected by floods, causing huge damage to life and property. The flood claimed 25 lives till Tuesday evening and over 13 lakh people have been affected.
