Assam Cabinet Meet: No govt jobs for those with more than two kids

In the Assam Cabinet meeting held on Monday, it was decided that no government jobs will be provided to people with more than two children in the state. The decision will come into effect from January 1, 2021. The Cabinet also decided to adopt a New Land Policy and increase the bus fares by 25 per cent in the state.

New Delhi: The Assam Cabinet on Monday decided that no government jobs will be given to persons having more than two children after January 1, 2021.

The important decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting that also adopted a New Land Policy, which will give three bighas of agricultural land to landless indigenous people and half a bigha for constructing a house.

A communique from the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's public relations cell stated that those having more than two children will not be considered for government jobs with effect from January 1, 2021, as per the small family norm.

In September 2017, the Assam Assembly had passed the 'Population and Women Empowerment Policy of Assam' that specified that job candidates with two children only would be eligible for government employment and the existing government staff were to strictly follow the two children family norm.

"New Land Policy was adopted. Three bighas of land will be given to landless indigenous people. Landless people will be offered half a bigha to construct their houses. These cannot be sold for 15 years," the CMO statement said.

The Cabinet meeting also decided to increase the bus fares in the state by 25 per cent, it added.

Assam Cabinet Meeting: Important Decision taken by the state govt. 



Two years after the 126-member Assam Assembly adopted a Population Policy, the State Cabinet on Monday evening decided to make governement jobs out of bounds for people with more than two children. 



The Cabinet Meeting also adopted a New Land Policy, that will give 3 Bighas (43,200 sq. ft.) of agricultural land to landless indegenous people and half a Bigha for constructing a house. This will come with a rider: a beneficiary can sell the land only after 15 years of use. 



The Cabinet Meeting also decided to increase th bus fares in the state by 25%, it added. 



Other Decision taken by the Cabinet included providing 300 INR per month to widows under a scheme named after educationist Indira Miri. The Scheme also entails a one-time grant of 25,000 INR for women who became widows on or after April 1. The Cabinet decided to open 1277 new Post in Panchayat and Rural Development Department. Also the Cabinet decided to include Japanese Encephalitis which cost the lives of 168 People of Assam under the Atal Amrit Yojona. Under the AAY, decision was taken to cover the patient who are in ICU. 



The Policy will Come into Effect from January 1, 2021.
