Guns, ammunitions recovered ahead of local polls in Assam

Ahead of elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Areas, police have recovered arms and ammunition buried underground in Assam's Baksa district.

Baksa (Assam): The police in Assam's Baksa district have recovered arms and ammunition buried underground.

The development assumes significance as the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts including Kokrajhar, Baksa, Udalguri and Chirang is heading for the election of the Bodoland territorial council (BTC) that runs the administration in the areas.

Police said that two AK 47 rifles, four magazines and 520 rounds of live ammunition were recovered by a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Lamhao Doungal. The arms and ammunition were hidden underground at Chinadi Basti near Dihing river in the district.

It may be mentioned here that recovery of the arms and ammunition has become a regular development in the BTAD areas for the last few months. Police are, however, yet to ascertain as to who has hidden the arms and ammunition and for what purpose.

"It is difficult to make any comment as on today to which group or miscreants the arms and ammunition belong. However, our investigation is on and we will find out who is behind these seized arms and ammunition," said Baksa Superintendent of Police Hiranya Barma.
