Visakhapatnam: Vizag Steel Plant workers on Thursday intensified their protests against the privatisation of the plant after the Central government expedites the process to sell its 100 per cent stake by inviting bids from transaction advisors and legal advisors.
The workers staged their demonstration and sit-in protests on the main gate of the plant citing that the Centre decision is against their will as the privatisation of the plant will not be in the interest of the people dependent upon it. Warning the Centre to hold the privatisation proposal, they said that they will stop the people coming to purchase the plant at the airport.

In the month of January, the Cabinet has agreed over 100 per cent disinvestment of government holdings in Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) or Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The Central government has fixed the deadline of July 28 for submission of competitive bids and offers while the technical bids will be opened on July 29.

Preparing to officially start the process of privatizing the steel plant, Union Steel Ministry has also issued notification for the appointment of a legal advisor and transaction advisor who will help in avoiding legal implications in the process. Responsibilities of the privatisation process will be handed over to those who acquire tender first.
