Woman commits suicide upset over postponement of marriage

A 25-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district on Saturday because she was upset over the postponement of marriage due to lockdown.

Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh): A 25-year-old girl committed suicide due to frustration, as her marriage was postponed due to the nationwide lockdown, at Shantinagar in Dharmavaram police limits in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Himavati of the same village.

According to sources, Himavati was engaged to a young man of Kothapet, and their marriage was scheduled to be held in April this year. However, the marriage was postponed due to the nationwide lockdown.

Depressed over this, Himavati hung herself from the ceiling in her bedroom on Saturday morning.

The family members rushed her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead, sources added.

Police said that the body has been sent for postmortem and cops are investigating the matter.
