Vizag: The Srikakulam district deputy superintendent of police (special branch), P.V. Krishna Varma, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Vishakhapatnam on Friday.
According to sources, Krishna Varma had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Varma was on leave for almost two and a half months and medication.
The alleged incident took place at around this afternoon as the officer hanged himself to the ceiling when his family members were away from home.
On being informed, the town police reached the spot and took information about the incident. The police have sent his body to the morgue for post-mortem, sources said.
However, the actual reason behind the DSP's alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained and the police didn’t recover any suicide note from the DSP’s residence, sources added.
Reportedly, the state police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched a probe into the incident.
