While his companions left for their home states on foot, Singh decided to cover the over 1,000-kilometre journey back home to his village in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi on his hand-driven tricycle.

Singh, who had departed from Rajahmundry three days back, was spotted on National Highway 16 in Visakhapatnam district. Dr Sasidhar, a homeopathic doctor spoke to Singh and gave him money for the rest of the journey.

Singh said that he wakes up at 3 am everyday and tries to cover at least 40-50 kilometres before stopping to rest for the day.

He said that with no source of income, he had no other option but to return to his village, where his family resides.

Though the nationwide lockdown was imposed to arrest the spread of coronavirus, it has unfortunately, adversely affected migrants across the country. Though the government has been arranging buses and trains for them to get back home, many migrants have been opting to take the long road back home, complaining of limited trains and buses.
