Nandyal (Andhra Pradesh) : Two people died due to drowning and one went missing in an accident that occurred in the Owk reservoir of Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh. The tourism department's boat met with this mishap on Sunday. The boat went into the reservoir with a total of 12 tourists, sources said. Suddenly the boat overturned and sank as the water entered it.
On receiving the information, the police officials reached the spot and launched a search operation. Expert swimmers were pressed into service. Over 11 people were rescued and brought to the shore by the authorities. However, a woman named Ashabi (28) died after reaching the shore. Three others were taken to Banaganapally Hospital. A woman named Noor Jahan (37) lost her life while receiving treatment there.
Among those undergoing treatment at the hospital are two children aged less than a year. They were shifted to Kurnool for better treatment. The missing girl has been identified as Shahjeeda. Preliminary investigation revealed that the boat sank after all the tourists gathered to one corner in panic as water gushed into it. Then, the boat steeply tilted to one side, lost balance and capsized into the reservoir.

The capsize took place when fourteen members of a family went on a pleasure trip. Head constable Rasool Basha's family met with tragedy. The accident happened just as the boat went into a distance of half a kilometre into the reservoir. Police rescued the victims with the help of another boat. The boat driver was stated to be in an inebriated condition and he escaped from the scene, sources said.
