New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind, who had taken note of the alleged police brutality incident in Andhra Pradesh, has ordered for the transfer of the case file to the Department of Social Justice.
The President's office ordered to transfer the case file to the Department of Social Justice, consider a case of urgency, and conduct a speedy inquiry into the matter.
The development comes after the President had directed the state government to conduct an independent inquiry on a representation given by the victim Vara Prasad, a Scheduled Caste (SC) youth from East Godavari district who was allegedly beaten up and tonsured in a police station.
Earlier in July, a scheduled caste youth, Vara Prasad, was allegedly thrashed and tonsured by the Sitanagaram police.
According to reports, Vara Prasad had confronted a YSRCP leader and tried to stop his sand lorries at Muni Koodali area. He was then reportedly called to the police station where he was allegedly assaulted.

After President Ram Nath Kovind responded and ordered for the matter to be handed over to an Assistant Secretary of the state government, the youth had thanked him.
Eluru range DIG KV Mohan Rao was given charge of the case, following which the Sitanagaram SI and two constables were suspended. A case was filed against them under SC/ST Atrocities Act.
