Hyderabad: Polling for the 2019 general elections in Andhra Pradesh turned violent as a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) worker was hacked to death at a polling booth in Devapuram village, falling under the Tadipatri constituency of Anantapur district on Thursday.
The party worker was identified as Siddha Bhaskar Reddy and the TDP leaders have alleged that Reddy was attacked by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) activists. Initial reports doing rounds in the media claimed that the party worker was critically injured and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Police officials, later, clarified that Reddy had succumbed to the injuries. More details of the incident, including the main cause that led to the same, are yet to be ascertained.
AP Legislative Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao attacked in Guntur
In another incident, AP Legislative Assembly's Incumbent Speaker and Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) candidate from Sattenapalli assembly constituency Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, was reportedly manhandled by YSRCP activists in Sattenapalli of Guntur district.
According to sources, Rao fell unconscious in the alleged attack and his shirt was reportedly torn by the attackers at a polling centre in Yanametla village.
Right from the commencement of polling, sporadic incidents of violence were reported from across the state in the form of clashes between TDP and YSRCP workers.
Such incidents were reported in constituencies of Eluru, Chittoor, Anantapur, Guntur, Kurnool and Prakasam districts. More than 10 leaders and party workers reportedly sustained injuries in the incidents.
