Live wire electrocutes baby elephant to death in Andhra

A baby elephant was electrocuted in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district after it came in contact with a live wire. The elephant calf was later buried by forest officials.

Chittoor: A baby elephant was electrocuted in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district on Sunday. According to reports, the elephant calf and its mother were entering the farm of one Subhramanyam when it came in contact with a live wire.

As the baby elephant died on the spot, the mother tried to resuscitate its baby for about half an hour.

Forest officials reached the spot and arranged for a post mortem. Later, the calf was buried.

Villagers claimed that they had informed the power department about the wire lying low, however, they paid no heed to it.
