Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): After the Andhra Pradesh High Court issued contempt notices against over 100 YSRCP activists, senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy came out in their support and said that the party would continue to stand by them.
After the High Court had struck down the Ordinance promulgated by the YS Jagan government curtailing the tenure of the State Election Commissioner (SEC) from five to three years, party activists had taken to social media to criticise the judgment.
Taking a serious stand, the High Court then issued contempt notices to as many as 103 YSRCP party men.
Commenting on the issue, Vijayasai Reddy came out in support of his fellow partymen, saying that they never had the intention to insult the High Court or its judges.
Further, he lashed out at the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), accusing it of provocating his partymen to post such comments against the judgment on social media. He said that if the same cases were filed against TDP cadres in the five years when they were in power, all the state's jails would not have been enough to accommodate them.

Reddy further stated that certain fake social media accounts on his name abusing the Chief Minsiter will not be spared.
On the Ramesh Kumar issue, Reddy said it was a big insult to the democratic system, and questioned the TDP as to why it was supporting Kumar.
Nearly one and a half month after he was sacked by Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government, the retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer had returned as the SEC following the High Court order striking down the ordinance issued to sack him. The court also quashed the government order appointing retired high court judge V. Kanagaraj as the new SEC.
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government had issued an ordinance on April 10 to sack Ramesh Kumar as the SEC following a row over the postponement of local body elections.
