Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): The Andhra Pradesh government intends to sell around 1,600 acres of land given by farmers for the construction of Amaravati, under 'Mission Build Andhra Pradesh', it told the High Court.

During hearing on petitions challenging the proposed sale of land, Mission Build AP Director Praveen Kumar mentioned the above in the details submitted to the court.

During the tenure of the previous TDP government, the state government had allotted 1,691 acres to a Singaporean consortium of Ascendas, Singbridge and SembCorp for the development of a startup area in the capital. The Singaporean consortium and the Amaravati Development Corporation had decided to jointly develop the area.

However, the YSRCP them came to power, following the construction of the capital was halted and the government decided to walk out of the project. The Singaporean consortium and the state government terminated the agreement by mutual consent.

Praveen Kumar told the high court that it was decided at the state level monitoring committee (SLMC) meeting held by the chief minister to consider selling 1,600 acres of land allotted for the startup area development project under Mission Build AP.

He added that the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) commissioner had decided to make the necessary arrangements.

Praveen Kumar said in the affidavit that the government had decided to sell the land belonging to the Central Jail in Vijayawada as well as the jail premises in various other cities. SLMC is of the view that the government will get enough revenue as it is selling the land transparently through e-auction, he said.

The committee was reportedly of the view that it would be better to build iconic commercial complexes with world-class standards and state-of-the-art facilities in areas where the construction of commercial buildings is permitted.
