Tokyo: World No. 17 Sofia Polcanova of Austria on Monday beat India's ace table tennis player Manika Batra in straight sets in Round 3 of women's singles match here at the Tokyo Olympics.
With the defeat, Manika's campaign ended at the Tokyo Olympics in women's singles event.
Seeded 10 at the Olympics, Polcanova showcased her table tennis prowess in the first round itself with good smashes and brilliant use of backhand. The match was a close one as Batra tried to match her opponent but lost 11-8.
In the second set, the contest became one-side with the Austrian thrashing Batra 11-2 in just four minutes. Batra was trailing 0-2 by then. The third match met the same fate as the Indian lost 11-5. It was all done and dusted in the fourth set where Batra lost 11-7.
Earlier, Batra had registered an emphatic victory over 20th seed Margaryta Pesotska and Tin-Tin Ho in the first round.
