Tokyo: Making her Olympic debut, Indian fencer Bhavani Devi on Monday displayed extraordinary skills as she beat her Tunisian opponent Nadia Ben Azizi 15-3 in women's Sabre Table of 64 match.
Azizi was no match to Devi as the match was done and dusted in six minutes and fourteen seconds.
The rules in fencing says that a player who reaches 15 points first is declared as the winner.
The Chennai player, who became the first Indian to qualify of the Olympics was at her aggressive best and raced to 8-0 in the first three minutes.
Quick on her feet, Devi's freewheeling movement and handling of sabre saw her opponent down by 12-1 at one point, such was her dominance. Devi finished the proceedings, reaching the next three points in few minutes.
Devi will be tested in the upcoming matches as she meets higher ranked players. Meanwhile, in the second round, she will be facing France's Manon Brunet, semi-finalist of the Rio Olympics.
