After failing to progress beyond the opening round in the 100m, sprinter Dutee Chand will be eyeing a better run in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics women’s 200m sprint heats at the Olympic Stadium on Monday, August 2.

Kamalpreet Kaur – Athletics

Discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur produced one of the best performances by an Indian in the Olympics, though in a qualifying round, as she made it to the finals of the ongoing Games after finishing second here on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Kaur, competing in qualification B, sent the discus to a distance of 64m in her third and final attempt to be one of the only two automatic qualifiers for the final round, the other being American Valarie Allman (66.42m).

She will be competing in the medal round on Monday.

Ireland’s loss to Great Britain on Saturday India qualified for the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics women’s hockey as the fourth-placed team in Group A.

Rani Rampal’s side will now take on Group B toppers Australia on Monday. Australia are unbeaten in the tournament with five wins from five matches. The Australians have scored 13 goals and conceded only one goal.
