Boxer Vikash Krishan loses to Japan's Sewonrets Okazawa, bows out of Olympics

Vikash Krishan's Olympic medal hope has been dashed as the 69kg boxer suffered defeat to Japan's Sewonrets Okazawa.

Tokyo: 29-year-old Vikas Krishnan on Saturday lost his round of 32 match in the men's welterweight boxing event here in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics and as a result, he has bowed out of the mega event.

Japan's Mensah Okazawa defeated Krishnan 5-0 in the round of 32 match here at the Kokugikan Arena.

In Round 1, all five judges gave 10 points to Japan's Okazawa while Krishnan got 9 points from all five judges and as a result, the Indian boxer was trailing.

The same fate followed in Round 2, and by the end, Krishnan was left with a humongous task in the third and final round.

Krishnan was not able to outclass his Japanese opponent in Round 3 and as a result, he had to bow out of Tokyo Olympics. On Sunday, pugilists Mary Kom and Manish Kaushik will be in action.
