Hyderabad: Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray started their quest to become Virtual Madrid Open champions after wins over Denis Shapovalov and Benoit Paire respectively.
Nadal, who has won the Madrid Open five times since 2003, defeated Shapovalov after a tie-break by 4-3(3).
Meanwhile, Murray started with victory his Virtual Madrid Open after beating France's Benoit Paire by 3-1.
Murray is playing in the Group 1 alongside Rafael Nadal and Denis Shapovalov.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and David Goffin won their respective matches against Fabio Fognini and Lucas Pouille by 3-0 apiece, while Sorana Cirstea and Kiki Bertens beat Johanna Konta and Angelique Kerber.
Also, 2018 champion Alexander Zverev started his Virtual Madrid Open with victory against Lucas Pouille, while Johanna Konta bounced back from a previous against Sorana Cirstea to beat Victoria Azarenka 4-2.
