Tokyo Olympic's marathon, race walk shifted to Sapporo

Lausanne: The marathon and race walk at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics moved from the Japanese capital to Sapporo where temperatures will be "significantly lower", the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced the dates and details of the routes on Thursday.

The IOC said the competition schedules had also been revamped to facilitate the support of National Olympic Committee officials and coaches to the athletes, as Sapporo is located 800 km to the north of Tokyo.
