Uzbekistan's Ekaterina Voronina, who finished at the fifth spot in the Asian Games, defeated Asian Games gold medallist Swapna and won the women's heptathlon gold with a world-leading total of 6198 points.
Swapna notched her personal best in the 200m heptathlon event but appeared to have lost some crucial points in the javelin throw, where she could manage only 46.83m. She had a personal best of 50.63m in the event.
“I’m not very happy, I’m not pleased with my javelin throw result. My preparations were not good, I’m an injury queen, you know…had a problem with my ankle,” the 22-year-old from West Bengal, whose 5993 points brought her the silver, said. Ekaterina had finished fifth at the Asian Games.
