# Sprinter Dutee Chand won the 100m gold medal in the ongoing World University Games in Napoli. No other Indian had qualified for the 100-metre final in the history of the University Games before Dutee. With this win, Chand became the 1st Indian to win 100-metre gold in World University Games.

# Star Indian sprinter Hima Das won her second International gold in women's 200m with a top finish at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland. Hima, who has been struggling with a back problem for the past few months, clocked 23.97 seconds to clinch the gold while her compatriot VK Vismaya bagged the silver by finishing the race at 24.06 seconds.

# Ace Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap lost the final bout of the Canada Open 22-20, 14-21, 17-21 to China's Li Shi Feng to settle for silver. The 2014 Commonwealth Games champion, who had come through three gruelling matches to make it to the final, managed to pull off the opening game against the Chinese opponent 22-20.He, however, struggled in the second and third and eventually lost them 14-21, 17-21, thus losing the match.

# England entered their first World Cup final since 1992 after decimating five-time champions Australia by eight wickets courtesy of a fearless knock from Jason Roy. Eoin Morgan's men skittled out Australia for 223 before romping to their target in 32.1 overs in a lop-sided battle between the hosts and the holders at Edgbaston.

# Brazil defeated Peru 3-1 to win 9th Copa America title. Brazil's last triumph came in 2007 when they beat Argentina 3-0 in Venezuela. Everton and Gabriel Jesus struck first-half goals before Richarlison converted a late penalty as hosts Brazil defeated Peru 3-1 in the Copa America final.

# Simona Halep became the first Romanian woman to reach the Wimbledon final when she defeated Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-1, 6-3. The 27-year-old seventh seed, who was French Open champion in 2018, will be playing in her fifth Grand Slam final.
