  • In the flood-hit Karnataka where 19-year-old boxer Nishan Kadam swam 2.5 kilometres in floodwaters to participate in the state-level championship. Interestingly, Nishan's dedication paid-off as he won a silver medal in the competition.
  • Aishwarya Pissay created history by becoming the first Indian to claim a world title in motorsports. The 23-year-old racer from Bengaluru lifted the FIM World Cup in the women’s category after the final round of the championship in Hungary. She also finished second in the FIM Junior category.
  • Grappler Deepak Punia became India's first junior World Champion in 18 years after he claimed a gold medal at the junior worlds with a win over Russia's Alik Shebzukhov. The last Indian to emerge gold medallist at the junior world championship were Ramesh Kumar and Palwinder Singh Cheema who stood atop the podium in 2001.
  • Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the first batsman to score 20,000 international runs in a single decade. Kohli now has 20,502 runs across all three formats of the game. Earlier, Australia's former skipper Ricky Ponting held the record for scoring most international runs in a decade with 18,962 runs to his credit in the 2000s.
  • The International Cricket Council and Commonwealth Games Federation confirmed the inclusion of women's T20 cricket at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. As many as 8 international teams will compete in the event after a joint bid by the ICC and the England and Wales Cricket Board. All matches will be played at the Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham.
  • Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian Men's senior cricket team for a second successive term. Shastri has been re-appointed for a 2-year term, which will stretch till the 2021 ICC World T20, scheduled to be played in India.
  • Former India opener and national selector VB Chandrasekhar committed suicide in Chennai. According to a senior police official, Chandrasekhar ended his life by hanging himself at his house in the city due to debts.
