Shooter Sanjeev approaches HC over arms licence notice

The 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist' arm licence is valid till 2020.

New Delhi: Arjuna Award winning shooter Sanjeev Rajput has approached the Punjab and Haryana high court against the show cause notice issued by Yamunanagar deputy commissioner over his arms licence renewal.

With the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games qualification events are knocking at the door it is important for Rajput to renew his arms licence.

The Yamunanagar DC asked the two-time Olympian why his licence should not be cancelled because a rape case was pending against him.

Rajput approached the DC's office for the addition of one weapon on his arms licence and for extension of area validity.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist' arm licence is valid till 2020.

The ace Indian shooter, however, said that he is using the rifles for sports events not to threaten anyone.

Taking Rajput's plea into consideration, Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa of the high court has sought's Haryana government response by April 12.

“The petitioner herein is stated to be an Arjuna Award winner in the year 2010 and has represented the nation in the Beijing and London Olympics in the year 2008 and 2012, respectively, in the capacity of an ace shooter. On November 22, 2018, he was served with a show-cause notice issued from the district magistrate, Yamunanagar contemplating the cancellation of his arms license bearing No. 6619/June/D.M.Y./2011,” observed Justice Dhindsa in his orders.
