Shanghai: Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari had the quickest time in the first of two practice sessions on Friday, ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.
Vettel clocked 1 minute 33.911 seconds, closely followed by reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
The next two spots went to Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Max Verstappen of Red Bull.
Sunday's race is the 1,000th in the history of the motorsport, with its beginnings back in 1950 at the Silverstone circuit in the south of England.
Mercedes drivers Valtteri Bottas and Hamilton have each won one of the first two races of the 2019 campaign.
Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull dominated Friday's action and are expected to do the same on Sunday.
