Red Bulls unveils 'Niki Lauda Kurve'

Vienna: The first curve at Australia's Red Bull Ring has been named the Niki Lauda Kurve in memory of the legendary Formula One champion Niki Lauda.

Motorsport great Lauda passed away aged 70 last month, which drew tributes from the biggest stars in F1. Lauda, the only Austrian driver to win a home Grand Prix, will have his name permanently adorn Turn 1 in Spielberg following a ceremony on Sunday.

“Becoming a permanent part of the Red Bull Ring Turn 1 will now always be known as the Niki Lauda Kurve,” Red Bull announced on Sunday morning. "A fitting tribute to a champion, legend and friend."

Tributes to Lauda have been paid throughout the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, with the walkway beneath the circuit bedecked in pictures that celebrate his life.

A version of the Ferrari 312 T4, the car raced by Lauda from 1975 to 1977, has been placed on display in the paddock.
