The incident took place on Saturday when the 22-year-old Anthoine Hubert's car suffered a huge impact from the car of American Juan Manuel Correa at about 170 mph at the Raidillon swerves.

Brussels: Formula 2 drivers solemnly observed a minute's silence on Sunday in memory of French driver Anthoine Hubert, who died Saturday after a heavy crash during a Formula 2 race at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Hubert's mother and brother held his racing helmet in their hands as teams and drivers representing all three formulas stood alongside them with heads bowed in the Spa-Francorchamps paddock.

After, Mick Schumacher was seen embracing Hubert's mother.

Sunday's scheduled F2 race was cancelled out of respect for Hubert, but the Formula 3 race went ahead.

PREMA's Marcus Armstrong won the race and dedicated the victory to Hubert on his team radio.

''This one's for Anoine,'' he said across the finish line.

The race included a big crash from Simo Laaksonen.

MP Motorsport's Laaksonen went off at the exit of Blanchimont at high speed, his car buried under the barriers.

The Finnish driver was taken to the medical centre for checks, with initial reports - though unconfirmed - indicated he is not suffering any severe injuries.
