Patiala: Ace Indian sprinter Dutee Chand claimed that she qualified for the IAAF World Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place in Doha from September 27 to October 6, after bagging gold in the 100m race at the 6th Indian Grand Prix. However, there was no mention of her name in the nine-member Indian women's squad for the Worlds released by AFI (Athletics Federation of India) on Monday evening.
Dutee completed the race in 11.43 seconds which is below the qualifying mark for the World Championships.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Chand said that she wants to work extremely hard to continue her success and make a name for her state Odisha in the entire world.
While speaking about her coach, Dutee exclaimed that her gaffer is really brilliant and knows everything about her game. If she now intends to change her coach then she would have to adapt to new techniques which might be difficult for her to adapt, and hence, she wouldn't want to change her coach.
Speaking about her views on an international coach, Chand said that although a foreign coach won't make much difference, they would definitely improve a few technical aspects of her game. But, she would never change her personal coach but can have an international coach as an assistant.
What has actually happened?
In truth, the AFI selection committee kept sprinters Dutee Chand (100m) and Archana Suseentran (200m) and high jumper Tejaswin Shankar as stand-bys for the IAAF Athletics Championships.
Their participation in the tournament is subject to the invitation from the IAAF based on their world rankings.
