Hyderabad: In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, ace Indian boxer Vikas Krishan Yadav on Wednesday opened-up about his preparations for the Tokyo Olympics, which has been postponed by a year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
When asked about COVID-19 lockdown, the Bhiwani-based boxer Vikas, who is only the second Indian male pugilist after the celebrated Vijender Singh to qualify for three Olympic events, said he is currently spending quality time with his family.
Vikas also said that due to lockdown, he is not able to train properly as he is living with his family and he does not have all the equipment at his home.
Talking about the Tokyo Olympics, which has been postponed to 2021, Vikas said, "I don’t know about other athletes. But I am happy with the postponement of the Tokyo Games as it will give me more time to prepare for the event."
The Commonwealth Gold medallist and Asian Games gold medallist also revealed that his next target is to clinch the yellow metal in the Olympics.
When asked if he believes the Summer Games will get cancelled due to COVID-19 outbreak, Vikas said, "No," before adding, "I will be devastated if that happens as it would not be good for my career as a boxer."
So far nine boxers have qualified for Tokyo Olympics from India and Vikas believes the country will at least clinch two medals in the mega event of the Summer Games in 2021.
