Ningbo (China): Former World champion Mirabai Chanu helped India win yet another gold on the opening day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship here on Tuesday.
Chanu lifted a total of 191kg (84kg + 107kg) in the senior women's 49kg event to clinch yet another gold for India while simultaneously making her case strong to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Indian contingent won a total of 13 medals that included eight golds, three silvers and two bronze medals in senior, junior and youth categories.
The qualification process for the 2020 Olympics are based on the performances of the weightlifters in six events over a period of 18 months out of which four best results made by a lifter will be considered. And Chanu's impressive performance in this event will aid her chance in qualifying for the premier event in Tokyo next year.
