New Delhi: Star Indian wrestler Babita Phogat along with her father and coach Mahavir Phogat joined the Bhartiya Janta Party in the national capital on Monday ahead of the Haryana state assembly elections.
After joining BJP, Mahavir Phogat said, "I am a very big fan of Narendra Modi. I have been his fan since 2014. He has worked a lot for the country. I think everyone would like to join the BJP."
Dronacharya awardee Mahavir Phogat had joined Ajay Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party before the 2019 general elections. However, he decided to leave JJP to join his daughter.
Mahavir was also appointed the chief of the Jannayak Janata Party’s sports cell. However, he was not given the party ticket for the 2019 general elections.
“BJP government did a great work by scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcating Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories,” Mahavir had said.
Mahavir also heaped praises on BJP-led Haryana government“for providing the state with a transparent government and recruiting youth in a fair manner”.
“I and Babita are on the way and heading towards Delhi”, he added.
Meanwhile, 2014 CWG gold medallist Babita, who is recovering from an injury, is aiming for the Olympics qualifications.
