Asian Wrestling Championships: Punia clinch India's 1st Gold medal

Xi'an (China): Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia clinched the first gold medal for his nation in ongoing Asian Wrestling Champions in Xi'an, China on Tuesday.

Punia, who also recently claimed the number one title, won the yellow medal by thrashing Sayatbek Okassov of Kazakhstan 12-7 in the 65kg category to bag the top spot.

Bajrang was trailing 2-5 at the end of the first round, however, the Indian wrestler fought his way back and defeated Okassov 12-7.

Meanwhile, Praveen Rana will later take on Bahman Mohammad Teymouri of Iran in the 79kg category for the top honours.

In the Women's event, the likes of Sakshi Malik, Pooja Dhanda, Vinesh Phogat, and Divya Kakran are also in contention.
