Asian Games: Indian archers trio to compete for bronze; loses to Korea in Archery Recurve Women’s semifinal

Indian archer's trio Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur was defeated by South Korea by a score of 6-2. They will now compete for a bronze medal with the losers of the second semi final. The Indian archers beat Japan 6-2 in the Women’s Recurve Women’s Quarterfinal to advance to the semis.

Hangzhou: India’s Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur lost against South Korea's archery team in the Archery Recurve women's team semifinal.

South Korea won the first two and the last set to defeat India by a 6-2 score.

India had a poor second half of the first set as they trailed by Korea 0-2 in the Women’s Recurve Semifinal. Korea won the first set with 56-54 points.

Indian trio continued their poor performance in the second set which cost them another set. Korea sealed the second set by 57-54.

India made a slight comeback in the third by winning it with 57 - 55 points to take the match to the final set. But they couldn't capitalize it in the next set and it cost them a match. South Korea won the fourth set 57-52 to win the Women’s Recurve Semifinal 6-2 and advanced to the final.

India will await the loser of the match between Vietnam and China for a playoff for the bronze.

Earlier, India’s Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur secured a place in the semifinals by defeating Japan in the Archery Recurve Women’s Quarterfinal.

Indian trio took the lead right from the start by winning the first set by 53-49. The scoreline after the first set was 2-0. They continued their dominance in set two as well. India won a close set by 56-53 to take a 4-0 lead in the Archery Recurve Women’s Quarterfinal.

Japanese trio made a strong comeback in the third set by winning a set. Japan edged the third set 54-53 to take the match into the final set. The scoreline was India 4-2 Japan after the third set.

The Indian team didn't let the game slip away from their hands by winning the final set of the match. India took the final set 54-51 to seal the win. India defeated Japan by 6-2 after four sets to qualify for the semifinals.
