Former Australia hockey player was almost certain to be appointed this week as Hockey India was only awaiting a final nod from the ministry. Reid had reportedly demanded $15000 per month for the post.

The post of the chief coach of the Indian senior men hockey team has been vacant since the sacking of Harendra Singh following the World Cup in December.

Earlier, Hockey India and Sports Authority of India (SAI), however, sent their nod on Reid's appointment for the position to the sports ministry.

It is heard that the sports ministry is not in a position to offer a high salary to Reid. The primary reason behind the ministry's objection of appointing Reid is his condition of visiting his family five to six times a year.

So, they kept his appointment on hold.

If the reports are to be believed union sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore will now take the final call on his appointment.
