WATCH: Spanish FA agrees with Basque clubs, Copa del Rey final delayed until fans allowed

Madrid: Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad officially requested to delay the Copa del Rey final until fans allowed, with the Spanish FA finally accepting their request.

The 2020 Copa del Rey final was scheduled to take place on April 18th in Sevilla but was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Since then it has been unclear whether the game would be played behind closed doors or delayed until 2021, even though the Cup winner would take a place in next season's Europa League, and UEFA have said that unless it is played, that place would be given to the team that finishes seventh in Spain's La Liga.

Earlier, both clubs had made their position clear with a statement on their official websites which stated they had "agreed to ask the RFEF for the Cup final to be played officially with supporters at a date to be agreed by the three parties."

It would have been the first ever final between Basque clubs in the competition.

Both presidents sent an official statement to the Spanish FA, that will meet on May 8th.

The football matches in the country have been stopped since March 12 in wake of the pandemic that has hit the entire world.
